So, every week, I have to do laundry. I have to go to work everyday. I have to get up early to get my workouts in. It feels like I have to do so many things. The list is endless.
Lewis Howes recently had Chris Lee on his podcast. Chris Lee is a life coach who wrote a book, 'Transform Your Life'. Listening to the two of them talk on the podcast, my eyes were opened.
For several years now I spend a lot of my time working on gratitude, a positive attitude and looking forward instead of behind me. But, shocker, I am not perfect. Not even close, and at times I find myself slipping back into that negative mindset, seeing the glass half empty. This happens to be one of those times.
Chris made a suggestion to Lewis and the audience. What if I changed the list of things that I have to do, into a list of things that I am blessed to do. So it would look something like this: I am blessed to do laundry because helps me have good hygiene. I am blessed to go to work everyday because I can help support my family. I am blessed to get up early and workout because it allows me to spend more time with my family when I get up before them to run.
When I look back to my time in treatment I remember thinking of that time in a similar manner. I felt so blessed to be in treatment and fight for my life and beat the eating disorder. I looked at the food I had to eat as a blessing, the fact that I no longer was able to purge was a blessing. And today it is still a blessing in my eyes. Seeing that time as a blessing allowed me to get the most out of the situation and really focus on getting better instead of staying sick.
I think that little change in thought will make a world of a difference. Especially on those tough, long days where that list of items that you have to do becomes a long list of blessings.
